NL-GOV-MCP is an open-source MCP server by WAINUT that unifies 46 Dutch government data sources in one interface. AI assistants retrieve data from it with the source attached. You may use it freely under Apache 2.0.

The server

What NL-GOV-MCP is

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open protocol that AI assistants use to call external sources and tools. NL-GOV-MCP is an MCP server with 75 tools for 46 Dutch government data sources. An assistant that uses the server can, for example, combine CBS statistics, parliamentary papers and court rulings in a single question.

Every answer carries its provenance: the endpoint, the parameters and the time of the query. That makes every result traceable to the official source. The server works with any MCP client, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code and custom AI agents.

How it works

    Ask a question

    You ask a question in Dutch or English, through an AI assistant connected to NL-GOV-MCP. Dates such as 'last week' or 'since 2020' work too.

  2. 02

    Pick the sources

    The nl_gov_ask tool picks the right ones from the 75 tools and queries the sources in parallel.

  3. 03

    Answer with source

    The results come together in one answer, with the source for each record and a notice when a source did not respond.

nlgovmcp.nl has a live demo and a location map. Search a municipality, neighbourhood or address and every source with data about that place is queried directly, with no language model in between.
